Maki has been cutting my hair
for several years.

Her home salon is
charming.  She has a great eye, she is very consistent, and I've always been
happy with my haircut.

 She is the real deal.
Her prices are very reasonable, too. It's
worth the drive to Phoenicia, and why not stop by the hipster Phoenicia Diner after
a cut and color or a blowout by Maki!?

Maki is a great hair cutter and colorist.

MAKI YUINADA

I am a seasoned hair stylist with over 20 years of experience.
I have worked in several of New York City's finest salons including midtown’s luxurious, high-end "Pierre Michel" salon and the FlatIron district’s sophisticated, Parisian-inspired "Sacha and Olivier."

I use state of the art techniques to provide each client with a creative and graceful style specifically suited to his or her facial structure and hair type.  I specialize in a technique called "dry cut" through which I take into account how the nature, texture, and condition of your hair will affect your cut. The first cut is on dry hair – your hair in its natural state. I then wash and condition your hair before studying how it has responded to the cut. We consult, and I then polish it up with any necessary additional cutting before drying and styling. My goal is to make sure you leave my salon in love with your hair cut.

When I first began studying the dry cut technique, I was taught that it is much like creating sculpture. This resonated strongly with me, as I am also an artist. I work with both wood and pottery to create three dimensional art. I design and make pottery … including elaborately ‘braided’ bowls for fruit or bread, Japanese-inspired flower vases, and unique dishes. My work with wood includes delicately turned salt dishes and treasure orbs with turret tops, as well as tables and chairs using birch, pine, maple, and other woods indigenous to the Catskill Mountain Park.

My private salon is nestled in the heart of the Catskill Mountains in the quaint township of Phoenicia.  Picturesque views of nature’s best are framed by large picture windows for you to take in. Mellow music adds to the peaceful, meditative environment. I revere nature. I ski and snowshoe in the winter. I am also an avid 4-season hiker. The Woodstock Times recently ran a piece written by locally revered Violet Snow on my adventures with my toy poodle, Mikey, as we hiked 39 peaks of the Catskills to become members of the Catskill 3500 Club. Photo albums of these travels, as well as others depicting nature, plants, and animals of our area are available for you to peruse.

I look forward to welcoming you to my salon, a gem in the heart of the mountains.

Warmly,

Maki
